The Postgraduate Committee sits to evaluate all applications, and make a recommendation to Senate. Successful applicants are notified through email and also by post following approval by Senate and University Council.

Eligible applicants for Master’s programmes should submit their application packages,
which must include the following:
• An application letter providing motivation for the application;
• Updated Curriculum Vitae;
• Two letters from academic referees;
• Certified copies of academic certificates;
• Certified copies of academic transcripts; and
• Copy of bank deposit slip for application fee.
The following requirements apply for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) applicants:
• An application letter providing motivation for the application;
• Updated Curriculum Vitae;
• Three traceable referees (at least two from academia);
• Certified copies of academic certificates;
• Certified copies of academic transcripts;
• A research concept in the area of specialization of approximately one thousand words; and
• Copy of bank deposit slip for application fee.

APPLICATION FEES
Payment of Admission Application fee
All applicants should pay a non-refundable application fee of K10, 000.00 for Malawian applicants
and US$150 for international applicants. The application fee is subject to change.

TUITION FEES
Tuition fees vary depending on the programme. Please scroll down the page and click on the programme title to view tuition information or contact the heads of departs under faculties and departments for more information.
FUNDING
There a number of available scholarships. Visit the scholarships under the admission section, You can get detailed information of available funding from the University Trust fund office.
All students are enrolled off-campus, students are expected to make own arrangements on accommodation. The university has limited room for rent on first come first serve basis. Special need students can lease with the dean of students office for further considerations.

Master of Science Energy Systems Engineering
Programme Description and requirements
The Master of Science programme in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Engineering is intended to impart knowledge and skills that can minimise reliance on foreign services in areas such as production, assembly, and/or re-engineering of energy systems components; feasibility studies, power system studies, and substation and system protection implementation. Successful master’s graduates will have an enhanced understanding of energy systems technologies, associated engineering project management, business management, and electrical power systems aspects which are integral of the energy sector management, and for enabling local production of energy systems technologies. Strategically, the programme is intended to: Enhance professional competency for engineers delivering power projects; Impart skills in energy systems analysis from technical, commercial and policy standpoints and the integration of energy systems engineering technology with financial planning; Enhance research for technical, economic and social development of Malawi, Africa, and the World at large; Enhance local production and fabrication of energy systems and associated accessories compatible to local situations in Malawi; Enhance collaboration between industries and academia including foreign Universities, Centres/Institutes through real-world problem-oriented research and fellowship programmes; Enhance the relevance of academic work to socioeconomic development; and Develop entrepreneurial skills for power sector development in Malawi and achievement of national development goals.
