Vote of Thanks
Mzuzu University would like to thank all stakeholders and members of the general public who have sent messages of support for the University since fire destroyed the University Library in the early hours of Friday December 18th. These messages of support have come from friends within Malawi and internationally.

Mzuzu University staff members have spent much of the Christmas vacation period developing plans to manage the situation in the medium term, while the University seeks to work with Government and partners for funds to rebuild the library in the long term.

Maintaining Academic Calendar for Open and Distance Learning Students in January
Mzuzu University Senate has taken the decision that Open and Distance Learning (ODL) students should attend orientation and campus-based activities in January as originally planned. Every effort will also be made to start the next semester on schedule on March 21st.

Addressing the Causes of the Fire and Future Preparedness
Mzuzu University will receive independent reports on the causes of the fire and will provide more information as and when these reports become available. The University will also more broadly review its operations and facilities management to optimise its disaster preparedness for the future.

Immediate Needs
The University is converting the Hall into an interim library and is taking steps to maintain other associated services. The immediate needs are for in-kind and financial support for: (i) books and learning materials in both electronic and physical format; (ii) computers and ICT equipment; and (iii) furniture such as reading tables, desks, chairs and shelving.
