More about our Department

The Department of Nursing and Midwifery opened its doors within the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2006 offering Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery (Generic), later in 2018, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery (upgrading) having identified a huge need to offer a career path to the eligible Nurse Midwife Technician with a college diploma. In 2020, the department progressed to offer Masters degree in Nursing with a focus on Clinical education.

The mission of the department is to produce highly qualified nursing and midwifery professionals through education and research in order to improve the health of Malawians. Its vision is to be a centre of excellence in education and research for the delivery of comprehensive quality nursing and midwifery care services

To become the centre of excellence, enhancing the quality of Nursing and Midwifery Services in bothe rural and Urban settings in Malawi and beyond through the development of highly motivated, educated, competent and professional nurse midwives.
