About The Program

Coursework is delivered for eight semesters to generic students and six semesters to upgraders where research project and forest management plan are partial fulfillments for a BSc in Forestry degree qualification. The aim of this programme is to advance the application of scientific, technical knowledge and skills to forestry and environmental sectors. On completion, graduates are expected to have competencies in forest biology, silviculture, forest management, biodiversity conservation, forest products and utilisation, forest extension and rural development, forest protection, forest economics, forest business management, forest planning and administration, climate change management and research.

Entry requirements

Admission requirements for 4 year BSc in Forestry (Generic and upgrading programme)
Candidates are required to successfully fulfil course requirements by completing at least 480 credit hours in 8 semesters. The entry requirements for the generic students are the Malawi School Certificate of Education (with a maximum of 30 points) or its equivalent with strong credits in science subjects. Upgrading students who have certificate in Forestry, Agriculture or other natural resources related fields obtained from a recognized institution of higher learning also require the Malawi School Certificate of Education (with a maximum of 30 points) or its equivalent with strong credits in science subjects. Specific subject combinations are outlined from time to time.
