Ms. Getrude Munthali

Ms. Getrude Munthali is a Medical-Surgical Nursing Specialist and the current Head of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery. She holds a Master of Science in Medical-Surgical Nursing from the University of Nairobi (2013), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2000), and a University Certificate in Midwifery (2001), both from Kamuzu College of Nursing (now Kamuzu University of Health Sciences). Additionally, she holds an Advanced Diploma in Clinical Ophthalmology obtained from the Malawi College of Health Sciences (2005), reflecting her commitment to broad-based clinical competence. Ms. Getrude Munthali teaches a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including: Fundamentals of Nursing, Foundations of Nursing, Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV & AIDS, Leadership and Management in Nursing, and Medical-Surgical Nursing. Her professional interests lie in quality improvement in healthcare delivery, with a focus on strengthening clinical competence, patient safety, and evidence-based practice. As a departmental leader, she champions curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and student-centred learning to ensure excellence in nursing education and practice.
