Biography


Joseph Kumwenda is a dedicated cybersecurity researcher and IT professional with a robust academic background and extensive experience in advancing cybersecurity resilience. He currently serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Information and Communication Technology at Mzuzu University, Malawi, where he teaches courses in cybersecurity, networking, and programming.

He earned his Master of Science in Cybersecurity from the prestigious National Forensic Sciences University in Gandhinagar, India (2022–2024), where his research focused on auditing businesses with hybrid security architectures and implementing advanced security frameworks. His academic journey also includes a Bachelor of Science in Information and Communication Technology from Mzuzu University (2014–2019). With a strong commitment to research, he has contributed significantly to the field of cybersecurity through his work as a Research Intern at the Cyber Defence Centre, National Forensic Sciences University, India. His research Interests span adaptive intrusion detection systems, compliance frameworks, and AI-driven cybersecurity solutions, Blockchain, IoT security and digital forensics.

Mr. Kumwenda’s expertise extends to designing and implementing security frameworks, conducting forensic analyses, and leading interdisciplinary research projects in network security, IoT security, threat detection, and compliance. He has developed innovative academic projects, including an ISO/IEC 27001 compliance simulation, an Active Directory monitoring lab, and an automated Python-based threat detection script for real-time network traffic analysis.

He is a certified professional with credentials such as the Google Cybersecurity Certificate, Certified AppSec Practitioner (CAP), Cisco Verified Ethical Hacker, and (ISC)² Certified in Cybersecurity, among others. He is an active member of professional bodies, including the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium ((ISC)²) and the Internet Society.
