Wilson Banda

Mr. Wilson Banda is a hospitality business management expert and current Head of the Hospitality Management Department at Mzuzu University since April 1, 2025. He holds a Diploma in Food, Nutrition and Health from Natural Resources College (2008), a BSc in Hospitality Management from Mzuzu University (2015), and an MSc in International Hospitality Management (Distinction, 2018) from Sheffield Hallam University, UK, supported by a Mzuni-World Bank scholarship. As a student, he won an inter-university essay competition on Intellectual Property and the Hospitality Institute Prize for top marks at Sheffield Hallam. He teaches courses including Nutrition and Dietetics, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality Marketing, Strategic Marketing, and Human Resources Management, with special interests in entrepreneurship, marketing, and HR management.

  • Mentored upcoming entrepreneurs and developed viable business plans and business canvas models (BMC) under Zantchito project funded by European Development Fund (EDF), which aims at creating an ecosystem of job creators,
    as opposed to job seekers.
  • Developed Entrepreneurship and Marketing training manuals which also comprised digital marketing content for small scale entrepreneurs under Muzi ecosystem initiative, as part of the “More Income and Employment in Rural Areas- MIERA II” project by GIZ in Malawi.
  • Worked as a leading facilitator and coach under the Muzi ecosystem initiative project targeting youths and women entrepreneurs, as part of the “More Income and Employment in Rural Areas- MIERA II” project by GIZ in Malawi. The training was conducted in three districts (Salima, Zomba and Rumphi).
  • Implemented the Innovative business challenge project under GIZ where 15 tourism entrepreneurial business ventures were trained, and coached using the business loop model by GIZ.
  • Developed competence-based training (CBET) modules in Marketing Management, Digital Marketing and Entrepreneurship under the Transforming Higher Education Systems (THES) project.
